Ways I Can Help Your Child

Catch Up

One of Patrice's students was academically behind by two grades. Within 18 months, Patrice and the student reduced the two-year gap to 6 months (while progressing through 3 grade levels) with major improvements in phonics, spelling, reading, writing and math.

Keys to success:

  • Identifying the missing core skills in phonics, spelling, reading, writing and math.

  • Implementing a tailored academic plan to develop a solid base of core skills.

  • Working one-on-one with the student full time, providing feedback, encouragement and praise.

  • Assessing what was/wasn't working and adjusting the plan daily.

  • Rewarding achievement of intermediate goals. Donuts, ice cream shops and field trips were popular!

  • Bringing enthusiasm to the classroom every day.

Build Proficiency

We start with fundamentals. Phonics is a key building block for spelling, reading and writing. The four math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) are taught and drilled to a high proficiency level before other subjects such as Pre-Algebra and Geometry can be mastered.

Whether your child meets with Patrice daily or less frequently, it is important that your child practices the fundamentals daily in order to gain and maintain high proficiency.

After the fundamentals are in place, we can focus on broadening knowlege. In language arts, this translates to more extensive vocabulary, speaking, writing and reading comprehension. In math, this means manipulating more terms in equation solving and methods for simplifying problems.

Whatever the situation, I meet your child where s/he is academically and build capabilities and confidence. My goal is to prepare your child for a productive and rewarding life ahead in a caring, nurturing learning environment.
